Joanne Azzopardi ASP


Joanne is a Clinical Psychologist with over 16 years of experience treating individuals with a wide range of psychosocial problems and disorders including: depression, anxiety (generalised anxiety disorder, social phobia, panic disorder, simple phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder), relationship issues, chronic pain, infertility, trauma (including sexual abuse), health related problems, personality disorders and grief.  Joanne worked in Adult Psychiatry at the Prince of Wales Hospital for over 6 years and has highly specialised skills in treating individuals with severe mental illness including psychosis, bipolar disorder and severe depression.  Whilst at the Prince of Wales Joanne also did work for the Mood Disorders Unit.  This was a state based tertiary referral service for individuals with severe and/or complex mood disorders (it later evolved to the Black Dog Institute).

Joanne joined Meridian Therapy and Assessment Centre in February 2015.  From 2002-2013 she was the Principal Psychologist in a successful private practice in Randwick. In addition to clinical work Joanne has regularly provided supervision to intern Clinical Psychologists.  Joanne predominantly works within a cognitive behavioural framework however she is skilled in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and also works from these modalities. She has also been practicing schema therapy for over 10 years and regularly implements this therapy for clients requiring a longer-term treatment approach.

Joanne completed a Bachelor of Science with Psychology Honours and a Masters of Psychology at the University of Sydney.  Joanne is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, the Australian Association of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and the Clinical College of the APS.
